What I'm up to

Well it's been almost two weeks now since I've posted some art, so I thought I'd write this in case any of you were wondering what had happened to me. 
I've been working on a piece for the last week and a half that I originally thought would take a lot less time. As I worked on it I kept on thinking "you know what this needs?", and then adding something else. Turns out, that without a deadline to work to, it's quite easy to endlessly work on and embellish a piece. But fear not, it's almost finished! And once it is, I hope to return to a more regular shedule of drawings (instead of taking ages on just the one).

5 things about me
1) I study architecture in college. We do a lot of drawing but, most of it is using a ruler or a computer and it's all buildings and straight lines. But as architects we're expected to know a little of everything (but not be brilliant at any one thing). This means we get to learn a lot about loads of different things and it makes it really interesting!
2) I'm a martial arts enthusiast. I used to practice jiu-jitsu and I practice iaido now. Iaido is "the art of drawing". It's all about how to wield a katana, including drawing it, resheathing it and cleaning it after battle. We wear full traditional clothing (not armour) and it's a lot of fun. Each year we do a demonstration at "Experience Japan Day" in the Phoenix Park which is a cultural event showcasing Japanese culture. It's quite nerve wracking demonstrating in front of a few hundred people.
3) I play the piano (or I used to
). I don't have as much time to play it now that I'm in college, but when I do get the opportunity I like to play music from Final Fantasy and Okami.
4) I'm a really picky eater. Even now I still haven't outgrown the "ew vegatables" stage. I'll eat some things like carrots, peas and lettuce but other things that most people eat I'll go out of my way to pick out of my food like peppers and mushrooms. Yes, I'm wierd.
5) I go to pieces when i see cute furry animals. If I see a puppy or a kitten I'll just squee like a little girl. Yes, very manly, arent I?
I have 11 questions from both Socks and Sitah. Rather than pick one, I decided that I'd do both for fun!
Socks first,
1) Favorite food?
Chocolate Fudge Cake. It's really rich, and you can't eat a lot of it, but by god does it taste good.
2) Favorite pony and why?
Pinkie Pie because no matter what kind of a foul mood I might be in, she can always make me laugh or smile. If I'm raging about something, I can just sit down and listen to smile, smile, smile and suddenly things won't seem so bad
3) Favorite Art historical period?
O_O wut? Ugh... Surrealism? (if you're ever nearby, go see Dali's museum in Spain, it's fantastic)
4) Favorite type of music and band?
Too many to pick just one. I go through phases of listening to different genres on my ipod. One week it'll be orchestral music, the next - classic rock.
5) You get a pizza, what is on it?
Meat, lots and lots of meat.
6) If you were a character in MLP: FiM, what would your pony do for a living?
I'd probably be a librarian or a museum guide, and in my spare time I'd just research magic and pony history.
7) What was your first motor vehicle?
Does my mum's ford focus count?
8) If you had the money to live anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
Japan. It's so different in terms of art and climate (it always rains in Ireland). I'd have the chance to train with some of the best martial artists in the world and see some of the most beautiful scenery and architecture. I've never been before so I don't know yet if I'd like it, but I know I want to go have a look at least!
9) What was the thing that got you interested in MLP / what was the first episode you saw?
I saw all of the memes and it piqued my interest. I tried watching the first episode and as soon as the jingle came on I went "NOPE!" and closed the lid on my laptop. Then I came back to it a about two months later. I skipped the jingle and gave the first episode a go. About four episodes in I realized I was hooked and I've never looked back. (I don't skip the jingle anymore)
10) Name one odd or out of place thing that is in your room.
My brother. O_O Even now I still have to share a room with him when we're home from college.
11) Favorite candy?
Yorkie chocolate bar. The chunks are big decent sized pieces instead of the small little ones you get with cadburys and the like.

12) Your favourite colour?
Blue. I love swimming and I love the sea. It's just so calm and peaceful.
13) Your favourite food?
See Sock's question above
14) Your favourite/special place to be?
In a wingback armchair, with glass of whiskey, in front of a roaring fire, talking with good friends.
15) What time of the day do you like the most and why?
The dead of night, especially in places that are supposed to be crowded during the day. It's so quiet and calm.
16) Your favourite candy?
See Sock's question above
17) The genre of music you listen to the most?
Orchestral (I think). I just love epic soundtracks from movies or games.
18) A very odd thing about yourself?
I'm ginger o_O
19) Favourite (video) game?
Okami (although Journey is a close second)
20) What makes you having the most fun?
Adventure and discovering new things!
21) If you were to go on a journey, where would you then travel?

22) If you had any super powers, what powers would it be?
The power to stop time. You could fix just about anything with it and it would be useful in everyday situations as well. Best of all, no one would ever know you had it!

Woot! First journal entry!
Well the newbie artist training ground is over, and we have no more deadlines or themes to work to. But don't worry! I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to take this opportunity to try new things and branch out. I started drawing again not just because I like ponies, but because I wanted to be able to draw other things too.
To everyone who commented on any of me pieces, gave me feedback, helped me in any way or just had a plain friendly conversation with me; thank you. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you. Your feedback and encouragement is what keeps me doing this and keeps me hoping that someday, I'll be really good at this.
I'll likely try my hand at some Okami art next as I've wanted to try that since this piece fav.me/d5aqu5e in the natg.
To everyone who took part in the natg, remember this is not the end! This is a new beginning. Now we have to find our own direction and our own motivations. We don't have themes to guide us anymore, but that means that you can draw whatever you fancy! So don't be sad it's over, be happy that it happened, and look towards the horizon. It's a new day, what will you draw now?
